Asus EEE Box with OCZ Agility SSD
My old home server is a LARGE machine with two Xeon processors, 512MB memory and an old 120GB SATA disk, I only use 16GB...
It also uses about 150 watts of power when idle, which is it most of the time... It is just massive overkill for this blog and my email.
Quite a waste! So, I decided to "upgrade" to something a little bit slower but about 10 times less hungry:

I bought it second hand, white, with the memory upgraded to 2GB and I asked the seller to remove the hard drive. Why? Because I wanted to replace it with this:

Not because of it saving power (it is only a little less hungry than a modern laptop disk...) but because it is quite a lot faster than a laptop harddisk! The EEE Box now makes no sound at all, when you turn it on the CPU fan comes on, then slows down until you stop hearing it.
I'm also moving from Gentoo to Ubuntu server 9.04. I'm still in the proces of installing all the services, but I already love it. It actually feels faster than my old Dual Xeon 2.4 Ghz machine! And that in about 1/50th of the volume... (my old server is in a full tower case)
I hope it will increase the speed of this blog as well, when I've migrated over to this...
It should, the Agility has almost instantaneous access times and the data transfer speed is almost triple that of the old SATA disk!
